Showcasing talented horses and riders, equestrian show jumpers, crazy clowns, exciting dogs, farmyard animals and everything in between, the 2022 Royal Manitoba Winter Fair promises to have something for everyone.
As the finishing touches are applied to plans for the event, which is returning to Brandon for the first time in three years, the Program / Volunteer Manager is excited about what is in store.
“I’m really excited about this year’s lineup,” says Kristen Laing Breemersch, Program and Volunteer Manager of the Provincial Exhibition “Not only do we have both the heavy horses and show jumpers back we’ve got some great entertainment planned for the entire family.”
The six-day Fair kicks off with the Sunrise Credit Union Western Breakfast on Monday, March 28 from 7-10am in the historic Dome Building. The cost is $5 and those attending are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for Samaritan House Ministries.
Then comes a steady stream of horses, cattle shows and entertainment – from fiddlers and children’s entertainers to dogs!
The dogs that will be back this year are the Fusion Credit Union Woof Jocks, providing kids of all ages a chance get up close and personal with one of the most popular shows at the Fair. Combining education and entertainment, over two dozen dogs and their handlers will showcase incredible tricks and the importance of positive reinforcement when training.
Additional attractions this year include the TD Ag Action stage, the Royal Farmyard (presented by Peavey Mart and Maple Leaf), Tom Bishop’s Wild West Show, The Little Buckaroos, Max and Ruby, Captain Corbin and Doodles the Clown.
A returning favorite of the show, Doodles has become a regular at the RMWF and a mainstay on the Shur Gro Entertainment Stage, located in the Manitoba Hydro Amphitheatre. His family shows include comedy, magic, music and more.
In addition to the entertainment attractions, those attending this year’s Fair will have a chance to see some of the top equestrian riders in Western Canada as they compete for prize money and trophies in a variety of events, beginning with the Wawanesa Gamblers’ Choice on Monday and closing out with the Wawanesa Grand Prix on Saturday night. In between theres the Prairie Ram Retailers Dog – Horse Relay, the Manitoba and ATCO Cups as well as the RBC Challenge.
While most of the activity will be held in both Westoba Place and the north end of the Keystone Centre, the Dome Building will be the site of three events throughout the week. Besides the Sunrise Breakfast, the Dome Building will host the Pork Quality Luncheon on Wednesday, presented by Manitoba Pork and Blue Water Wash, as well as the BMO Farm Family Reception on Thursday.
