Brandon, MB. – The Co-ops of Westman, in association with the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba, are pleased to announce plans for another exciting contest to help recognize 4-H Manitoba clubs at the 2024 Royal Manitoba Winter Fair at the Keystone Centre.
In addition to serving as the Presenting Sponsor of this year’s 4-H Day, scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th, the Co-ops of Westman, which include Heritage, Boundary, Pembina, Twin Valley, Valleyview and Neepawa – Gladstone Co-ops, 4-H clubs from across western Manitoba will be encouraged to submit speeches on how Co-op and 4-H bring communities together.
Beginning this weekend, western Manitoba’s 4-H club members will have the opportunity to submit a speech that illustrates how Co-op and 4-H are recognized as being strong community helpers. For instance, Where is your community? Who is your local Co-op? How do the two of you help bring communities together? Can you point out ways that both 4-H and local Co-ops support their respective communities?
Once completed, 4-H clubs are asked to visit coopsofwestman.ca to submit their speeches. Complete contest rules and contest information can be found there. Deadline for entries is Friday, March 8th, 2024.
While official contest rules can be found there, here are some of the ones for clubs to consider when preparing and submitting their work:
- There will be two age categories – Junior (age 11 and under) and Senior (12 and up).
- Each speech must be a minimum of 60 seconds in length and a maximum of three minutes.
- Open to residents of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, within the trading area of the Co-ops of Westman Group.
- Prizes have no cash value and must be accepted as awarded.
- In addition to uploading files on the Co-ops of Westman contest site, 4-H clubs will have the option to deliver a flash drive or paper copy to their local Co-op location.
In March, selected finalists will be invited to present their speech during a special 4-H luncheon in the Keystone Centre’s MNP Hall during the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. Two winners will then be chosen – one from a junior category and another from the senior category. Winners will not only receive a grand prize of a $250 Co-op gift card for their club, they will be recognized during the opening ceremonies of Tuesday’s evening performance at the Fair.
The Provincial Exhibition and Co-ops of Westman have launched several initiatives in recent years aimed at younger groups, most notably western Manitoba’s 4-H clubs. For more information on plans for the 2024 RMWF be sure to visit www.provincialexhibition.com
