It was a tough decision, but the 2022 Manitoba Summer Fair Committee has decided to cancel the Demolition Derby. The derby was scheduled for Sunday, June 12th the last day of the fair.
Committee Chair Connie Bok says it was a heartbreaking decision to cancel but there were circumstances out of everyone’s control, “There’s no question that the cool, wet weather and the lasting effect of the pandemic were not in our favour. It was too tight of a window for many of our drivers to prepare. We know that the Demo Derby is a crowd favourite and that is one of the reasons why we promise it will be back.”
The Demo Derby has been part of the Manitoba Summer Fair for decades, and once the dust settles from this year’s fair the Committee will work with the Demolition Derby community to create a large-scale event.
Connie Bok says they like to look at the big picture, “We appreciate the support that we have from our sponsors, the drivers – and of course the fans. And even though we are definitely disappointed, we have already started planning an action-packed derby in the future.”
